Dear Mission Ave Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! As I step into my 9th year as Principal of Mission Ave Open School, I remain so grateful for the privilege and honor of continuing to serve this very special school community. Each year brings new opportunities to grow together, and I couldn't be more excited about what lies ahead.

This year, our Opening Unit theme is "Dig It", and our teachers are thrilled to bring this theme to life across all content areas. From science explorations to creative writing, from math investigations to artistic expression, students will experience the joy of discovery as they dig deep into meaningful learning.

At Mission, we are fortunate to work alongside a team of highly qualified educators who are passionate about fostering each child's growth through engaging, hands-on learning experiences rooted in the Open Philosophy. The rich tapestry of cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences that our families contribute to our school is what makes our community truly exceptional. This diversity doesn't just strengthen who we are; it transforms how our students learn and grow together.

This school year, we're looking forward to enriching student learning through memorable field trips and continuing the tradition of parent volunteerism that defines the Mission Ave experience. We know that each family brings something unique to our community such as skills, perspectives, and talents that enhance our classrooms in countless ways. Whether you're reading with students, chaperoning an adventure beyond our campus, helping with special projects, or supporting school-wide events, there's a place for you here.

There have been some changes in staffing, and we look forward to introducing our new team members to our community in the coming days. Watch for more information as we share with the PTA Facebook page.

Your involvement makes a real difference. Elementary students light up when they see their parents engaged in their school day, and research consistently demonstrates that active family engagement leads to stronger academic achievement and healthier social-emotional growth. Your partnership in your child's education is invaluable.
