Volunteer

We can't do all the great things we do for our students without your help! The Open Philosophy and active parent involvement is what makes Mission Ave Open Elementary School such a desirable educational experience.  Most parents have chosen to enroll their child at Mission Avenue Open School, because we offer a wide variety of opportunities for your children to learn. We can only do these amazing activities and field trips with the support of our Mission parents. Whether you volunteer in the classroom, on a field trip, or at home, we welcome and encourage parent participation.    Mission Ave Open teachers appreciate parent/guardian support in the following ways, and the items marked with an H indicate these tasks can be done from home:

  • Chaperone on field trips
  • Homework grading - H
  • Assembling art project packages - H
  • Art docent
  • Working in the classroom
  • Lunch supervision & playground supervision - Approximately 1.5 hours per day
  • Helping in the crosswalk - Approximately 20 minutes per day
  • Organizing fundraising activities - H
  • Participating in After School enrichment classes
  • Participating in the PTA, School Site Council, or English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC
  • Assisting the choir teacher during choir practice
  • Assisting the yearbook teacher by serving as an advertising & sales advisor, photo collection chair, parent advisor, or yearbook administrator. - H
  • Assisting the teachers with Science Olympiad.

  You can see that parents are an valuable part of the MAGIC that happens at Mission.  

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

PTA welcomes you to another exciting school year here at Mission Avenue.  Please join us at PTA General meetings to learn more about the happenings at Mission.  All parents are welcome to attend. Don't forget to "Like" our Facebook page! 

Show your support for Mission Avenue Open School by becoming a member of the Mission Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). In doing so you’ll support and fund activities, events, and resources that support your children and their teachers.   Also, you will get voting privileges in general meetings and other membership discount benefits.

Who can join?

Everyone can join PTA.  We invite parents, grandparents,  family, teachers/staff, neighbors, Mission alumni and friends to join us.  

What is expected of PTA members?

NOTHING! There is no commitment or expectations of PTA members, you’re just simply showing your support for our great students, school, parents, and staff.  Of course, we encourage all parents to get involved with the PTA, but there is absolutely no obligation to do so.

How to join?

To become a PTA member today, you can join online at Mission PTA Web Site just add membership to your shopping cart and pay the $10 online. If would prefer to pay offline, please fill out the membership form and return it to the office with your $10 payment. Mission Wear discount for PTA members

All PTA members get a 10% discount on Mission Wear.  Once you are a member you'll have access to a 10% online member discount on Mission Wear, including hats, apparel, magnets and reusable "M" grocery bags. How cool is that!? Perks for being a member!

Support Our School

Box Tops for Education

Clip and save those Box Tops - each one is worth 10¢ for our school!  This may not seem like much, but it adds up quick.  Box Tops can be found on hundreds of quality products. Visit btfe.com for a complete list of participating brands and to learn more about how you can help our school. We have collection sheets in the office or you can put in a bag and turn them into the library with your name and your teacher's name on it.  For every 20 box tops you turn in, your name will be entered into a drawing for a monthly prize. Help us reach our goal of $1,000 this year.

E-Waste

Are you getting new technology?  You can donate your old technology through ewaste4good and our school will receive money back.  If only takes a few minutes to fill out the pick-up request form. Please select “Mission Avenue Open school” at http://ewaste4good.com/  to receive credit for your donation. Once a form is submitted, an eWaste4good representative will contact you and schedule a pickup day. Easy!
